Prednisone General Info
Prednisone is a synthetic glucocorticoid medication that was developed in the 1950s and became commercially available in 1955.
Prednisone is FDA-approved and included in the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. The WHO list contains only the most effective and safe medications used in clinical medicine.
Glucocorticoids General Info
Glucocorticoids are a crucial part of the immune system feedback mechanism. Glucocorticoids are responsible for reducing some aspects of the hyperactive immune system, such as inflammation.
Glucocorticoids are vital for the support and proper functioning of the cardiovascular and immune systems. Synthetic glucocorticoids are widely used in clinical medicine as replacement therapy in cases of glucocorticoid deficiency or as a suppressant of the hyperactive immune system.
Inflammation General Info
Inflammation is a critical protective response to harmful stimuli or bacteria that could lead to progressive tissue destruction. The inflammation process involves immune cells, molecular mediators, and blood vessels. However, chronic and severe inflammation as a hyperactive immune system response could lead to prolonged tissue destruction with slower healing timing.
Prednisone Main Usage
Prednisone is a very effective medication used as a treatment for:
severe inflammation
rheumatologic diseases (a condition that causes pain and affects joints and connective tissues)
osteoarthritis
mixed connective tissue disease
acute lymphocytic leukemia
adrenal insufficiency
Skin rash and allergic disorders
cluster headaches (severe pain on one side of the head, typically around the eye)
Prednisone Administration
Please start Prednisone therapy with a 5mg/day dosage. If 5mg/day dosage does not provide desired results, please increase the dosage to 10mg/day.
