What Estradot 25 Is
Estradot 25 is a prescription estrogen replacement patch. It continuously delivers small, controlled amounts of estradiol through the skin and into the bloodstream. Estradiol is chemically and biologically identical to the main estrogen produced by the ovaries before menopause.
What Estradot 25 Is Used For
Estradot is indicated for the relief of menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms associated with naturally occurring or surgically induced estrogen deficiency. These symptoms may include hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance and symptoms related to urogenital atrophy.
Estradot may also be prescribed to help prevent osteoporosis in estrogen-deficiency states, together with measures such as an adequate diet, calcium and vitamin D intake, smoking cessation and regular weight-bearing exercise. A healthcare professional should consider other available osteoporosis therapies and regularly confirm that the expected benefit continues to outweigh the risk.

Dose and Treatment Schedule
Use Estradot exactly as prescribed. Estradot is generally used as continuous therapy, with one patch worn at all times and replaced twice weekly on the same two days of each week. Each patch is normally worn for 3 to 4 days. The prescriber may select another Estradot strength according to symptoms, clinical response and treatment goals. Do not change the strength or schedule on your own.
For maintenance therapy, the lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest appropriate duration. The need for continued treatment should be reassessed periodically.
Women with an intact uterus are generally prescribed a progestin for 12 to 14 days of each cycle to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer. A progestin is generally not required after hysterectomy unless another clinical reason exists, such as residual endometriosis.
How to Apply Estradot 25
- Remove the old patch before applying a new one. Open one protective pouch at the notch and remove the patch without using scissors or cutting the patch.
- Choose clean, dry, intact skin that is free from creams, lotions and oils. The buttock is preferred; the hip, side, lower back or lower abdomen may also be used.
- Avoid the breasts, waistline, irritated or broken skin, very hairy or folded areas, places where clothing may rub and areas likely to be exposed to the sun.
- Remove the protective liner without touching the adhesive more than necessary. Apply the patch whole immediately after opening the pouch.
- Press the patch firmly with the palm of the hand for about 10 seconds, then check that the edges are fully attached.
- Rotate application sites. Do not apply consecutive patches to the same spot.
- Wear the patch continuously until the scheduled change. Bathing, showering and swimming usually do not affect it, but very hot water or steam may loosen the adhesive.
If a Patch Falls Off or a Change Is Missed
If a patch comes off and still adheres, it may be reapplied to clean, dry skin. If it does not adhere properly, apply a new patch. Continue with the original change days in either case.
If a scheduled patch change is missed, apply a new patch as soon as possible and then return to the original schedule. Treatment interruption may allow symptoms to recur.
Who Should Not Use Estradot
Do not use Estradot without medical approval if any of the following applies:
- allergy to estradiol, a non-medicinal ingredient or another component of the patch
- known, suspected or previous breast cancer or another estrogen-dependent cancer
- endometrial hyperplasia or unexplained abnormal genital bleeding
- current or previous venous blood clot, pulmonary embolism, thrombophlebitis or a known thrombophilic disorder
- current or previous arterial thromboembolic disease such as stroke, heart attack, angina or coronary heart disease
- liver dysfunction or disease while liver function tests remain abnormal
- classical migraine, porphyria or partial or complete loss of vision caused by blood vessel disease of the eye
- pregnancy, suspected pregnancy or breastfeeding
This is not a complete medical screening list. Tell the prescriber about all health conditions, including high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol or triglycerides, kidney disease, asthma, epilepsy, depression, gallbladder disease, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, lupus, thyroid disease, previous angioedema, planned surgery or prolonged immobility.
Important Safety Information
Hormone replacement therapy can increase the risk of serious conditions, including blood clots, stroke and certain cancers. Estrogen with or without a progestin should not be used to prevent cardiovascular disease. Regular medical follow-up is required, and treatment should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate duration.
Seek immediate medical help for symptoms that may indicate a blood clot, stroke, heart attack, sudden loss of vision or a severe allergic reaction. Examples include sudden weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, severe chest pain, coughing blood, unexplained shortness of breath, a painful swollen limb, sudden vision loss, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
Contact a healthcare professional promptly for a breast lump, new or unusually heavy vaginal bleeding, a new or severe migraine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, persistent application-site irritation, or another symptom that is severe or worsening.
Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects include application-site redness, irritation, rash or itching; headache; dizziness; nausea; abdominal pain or bloating; vomiting or diarrhea; breast tenderness or enlargement; changes in vaginal bleeding or discharge; vaginal infection; menstrual cramps; fluid retention; weight changes; acne; hair changes; mood changes; back pain; and pain in the arms or legs. This is not a complete list. Report troublesome or unexpected effects to a healthcare professional.
Drug Interactions and Monitoring
Tell the prescriber and pharmacist about all prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, minerals, natural health products and herbal supplements. Estradot may interact with certain seizure medicines, rifampicin or rifabutin, St John’s wort, some HIV medicines, ketoconazole, erythromycin, lamotrigine, anticoagulants, blood-pressure medicines, diabetes medicines and other hormone treatments. Estradot may also affect some laboratory test results, including glucose-tolerance and thyroid tests.
